Hi and warmest bear hugs to you and yours, Westie Bears are the award winning creations of Andy West of Horsham, West Sussex UK (approx. 1 hour from London). I am married to Lesley (who describes herself as a teddy widow) and I have three amazing children Hannah, Christian and Jack.
I started making bears as therapy for my hands when I developed a disability. My first creation was a complete disaster looking more like a martian!! But after I visited my first bear fair and met the very talented Deb Canham, I was hooked! I made mini bears for friends, family and myself at first but was lucky to win the BRITISH BEAR ARTIST AWARDS in 2005 (category 6) and after this my bears just took off!!
I have since been a semi finalist in the BARCLAY TRADING PLACES AWARDS (2006) and the winner of the WEST SUSSEX COUNTY TIMES BUSINESS AWARDS (2006). Update June 2007 I have just found out that i have been shortlisted again for this years Barclay trading places awards.
I am now having the time of my life designing and creating my mini bears and other critters (all of which are one of a kind and come with a birth certificate). I only use the highest quality textiles usually mohair or cashmere but sometimes other fabrics and materials. My trade mark is that of a little handmade Bee somewhere on the bear. As my bears are one of a kind, I do offer a bespoke service to my huggy adoptees.
Westie Bears also run regular workshops for small numbers of people. We try to keep numbers to a minimum to enable each course member to recieve as much of personal tuition as possible, oh and workshops have two rules: you must have fun and you must eat plenty of chocolate!!
This site will allow you to adopt a new little friend and it will also give information of shows we will be attending and other stockists.
